Student FAQ's

Moody is not requiring students to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. While Moody has not required students to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, the current Governor of Illinois’ Executive Order mandates all public and private higher education institutions adhere to a masking and vaccination mandate. This vaccination mandate requires all covered higher education employees and students to provide proof of 1) vaccination, or 2) medical exemption, or 3) religious exemption.  If a student has exemptions listed in 2 or 3 above, they must submit to weekly testing. The Executive Order also requires masks to be worn when in an indoor public place, regardless of vaccination status. This mandate, however, does not apply to students who are fully remote and do not have any need to travel to campus.

Documentation of Covid-19 vaccination can be submitted to Health Service by fax at 312-329-4419 or by email to healthservice@moody.edu, or a photocopy dropped off in person at the office or in the secure lockbox by the door on Smith 2. Please make sure your name, student ID number, and dates of vaccination are clearly printed on the documentation.

Moody leadership respects and honors everyone’s personal choice and religious convictions about the vaccination, while maintaining the health and safety of our staff and students, and compliance with state laws. Therefore, we support your right to apply for available medical or religious exemptions from the vaccination mandate. We have a simple exemption application process.

To apply for medical exemption from the COVID-19 Vaccine, complete the downloaded Medical Exemption form that you will find on the COVID-19 Resources section in the MyMoody portal and submit it to Health Service by dropping the form off or email it to healthservice@moody.edu.

To apply for a religious exemption from the COVID-19 Vaccine, complete the downloaded Religious Exemption form that you will find on the COVID-19 Resources section in the MyMoody portal, and submit it to Health Service by dropping the form off or email it to religiousexemptioninfo@moody.edu.

All Chicago residents ages 12+ are eligible to receive the vaccine.

Fully vaccinated individuals are exempt from Close Contact Quarantine assuming the absence of symptoms and are recommended to get tested. All students are expected to follow all local and state mandates. The federal government is providing the vaccine free of charge to all people living in the United States. For more information, visit https://www.dph.illinois.gov/covid19/vaccine-faq.

There is no cost for the vaccine. However, vaccination providers can charge an administration fee for giving the shot that is reimbursed by the patient’s public or private insurance company or, for uninsured patients, by the Health Resources and Services Administration at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. No one can be denied a vaccine if they are unable to pay a vaccine administration fee. The administrative fees cannot be passed on to the patient in the form of a co-pay or deductible. Moody recommends students who wish to be vaccinated, to do so prior to their arrival on campus. However, if students are unable to receive the vaccine prior to campus, there are many locations they can visit upon returning to Chicago to receive the vaccine.

Yes. As a resident of Chicago living on or off-campus, you are eligible to receive the vaccine.

Moody accepts your vaccine, regardless of where you received it.

External guests are allowed on Moody’s Chicago campus. Please follow the same visitor process for external guests that was outlined pre-Covid-19, including having them sign in at a welcome desk.

External events will resume at full capacity on Moody’s Chicago campus. Please email eventcoordinator@moody.edu regarding all internal, student, and external events.

There are currently no capacity limits for event spaces. Please be aware that capacity limits may change based on Chicago’s COVID-19 guidelines.

Historical campus tours will be held on campus Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. -11 a.m. Please have guests email eventcoordinator@moody.edu to schedule a tour.

If you move off campus in the first week of the semester, your room and board will be refunded. However, you will need to pay tuition and fees. After the first week of classes, your room and board will not be adjusted.

The tuition grant does not apply to Moody Online classes.

The tuition grant applies to classes that count toward your degree, regardless of modality, as long as you are residing on campus.

If you live on campus, the Pell Grant is applied toward tuition. If you are not living on campus, the Pell Grant will directly reduce your tuition balance.

If you choose to leave, you can complete your hyflex classes online. Your room and board will not be prorated because the campus will still be open.

Students who do not live on campus and who choose to attend classes via Zoom pay tuition.

Here are the items that you are required to bring with you when you return to campus:

• Digital thermometer to check your temperature if you are symptomatic
• Face masks (Recommended: at least 5 reusable masks that can be washed)
• Hand sanitizer for daily use
• Disinfectant cleaning supplies for your room

Yes. All students who are returning to campus are required to submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken within 72 hours of arrival on campus. Students can submit documentation of the COVID-19 vaccination to Health Service by fax at 312-329-4419 or by email to healthservice@moody.edu or via the to-do list in MyMoody. Please include your Student ID #.

Yes. All on-campus students are required to be tested through our on-campus COVID-19 testing site, which assists with monitoring campus well-being.

Students are required to test weekly. Students who have been COVID-positive in the last 90 days and received a positive test result from an outside care provider must send proof of their positive test to covidstudentlife@moody.edu

Commuter students: If you are in close contact for 15+ minutes, within 6 feet of others at least once a week, you also need to be tested. Testing is every-other week for vaccinated commuters or every week for non-vaccinated exempt commuters. This includes undergraduate and graduate commuter students. You can be tested at an outside facility and send a copy of your results to covidstudentlife@moody.edu to stay in compliance with mandated testing.

The City of Chicago and the state of Illinois currently (as of September 2, 2021) have standing mandates requiring masks in public settings while indoors on Moody’s Chicago campus, regardless of vaccination status.

Students who are required to test weekly are responsible for getting tested. If the testing center’s hours do not meet a student’s availability, that student must get tested elsewhere and email their test results to covidstudentlife@moody.edu. Please see the COVID-19 Testing Resources link on MyMoody for testing location recommendations.

All students who leave campus for an extended period need to be tested within 72 hours before their return to campus.

Chapel will return to in-person attendance Tuesday – Friday. Masks are required to be worn by students in Chapel in Chicago, regardless of vaccination status. Masks can be removed by presenters in Chapel because they are static and at least six feet from all other individuals.

Yes. In-person counseling will be provided through the Counseling Services office. However, unvaccinated individuals will be expected to wear a mask and social distance. Questions can be directed to counselingservices@moody.edu.

Student programs and student groups have returned to normal operations. Questions can be directed to student.programs@moody.edu.

All meals in the SDR Servery will be served without contact in carryout containers. Students are encouraged to use the available hand sanitizer prior to serving themselves. The dining room tables will be set up 6 feet apart. Since the dining room will only be able to seat 300 students, extended hours will continue to be in effect and the old bookstore and the Commons will still be available for overflow seating. Following the city of Chicago mandate, masks must be worn when not eating or drinking in the SDR.

F-1 visa holders can study anywhere in the world and maintain their immigration status if they are enrolled full time. International students must fill out the registration form at the beginning of the semester to confirm their location. Email ISO@moody.edu with questions.

Yes. We have resumed programs in January 2022. We have offered two-week programs during J-Term in Germany/Switzerland and in Greece. Summer programs will resume in 2022, with Moody in the U.K and Ireland, Moody in Europe, and possibly a Moody in Israel program. Submit the COVID-19 Submission Form if you experience COVID-19 symptoms, test positive for COVID-19, or come into close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19. We have a medical protocol that involves regular temperature checks, access to health care, COVID-19 testing, self-isolation, and ongoing communication with Moody’s Health Service.

All symptomatic students must be tested for COVID-19, even if you have been vaccinated. You can find the "Moody Recommended Testing Sites” document by going to my.moody.edu, “Chicago Campus” tab, then looking under the “COVID-19 Resources” section.

If your temperature reaches a fever level of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (or 38 degrees Celsius) or above, our healthcare partners will treat your symptoms as well as ask you to be tested for COVID-19. Submit the COVID-19 Submission Form to notify us of your symptoms.

Submit the COVID-19 Submission Form to report your close contact with someone. If you are listed as a close contact with someone who tests positive on campus, you will receive an email with details regarding quarantining and testing. Moody determines the duration of the quarantine based on CDC guidance.

If you are fully vaccinated or have had COVID-19 within the past 3 months, you are exempt from completing a Close Contact Quarantine. We ask that you still submit the COVID-19 Submission Form.  You must email healthservice@moody.edu and covidstudentlife@moody.edu to verify your exemption status.

No. Due to how long it can take the virus to show up in your system, a negative test does not mean you won’t develop the infection later. Symptomatic individuals are required to isolate for 5 days from the onset of symptoms, in accordance with CDC guidance.

If you have to quarantine or isolate, Dining Services will coordinate with you to provide food deliveries to your residence hall floor.

Your hyflex classes allow you to continue taking your classes online.

Our Sick Student Protocol provides clear processes for you and your roommate while you are isolating. Roommates can expect an email from covidstudentlife@moody.edu with instructions when their roommate has tested positive for COVID-19.

No. Please bring your own face masks when you return to campus. The city of Chicago has mandated wearing face masks in indoor public spaces, including classrooms on campus.

Yes, please call Health Service at (312) 329-4417 to make an appointment or to speak to a nurse prior to visiting.

If you live on campus, you are expected to attend classes in person. Faculty may establish and enforce attendance policies.

If you are a remote learner, your faculty will send you the Zoom link for your classes.

If you are a commuter student, you may attend class in person or Via Zoom. Please contact your professor with your preferred method of attending class.

Since Moody has both unvaccinated and vaccinated students on campus, we will continue to follow CDC guidelines for social distancing between students in classrooms.

Yes, all students are expected to wear masks inside Chicago campus buildings, including the classrooms, following the city’s mask mandate.

Move-In Day is back to normal, with measures being taken to assist with social distancing throughout the day. All students and guests on campus are expected to wear a mask inside campus buildings. Those traveling from outside of Illinois should be aware of the current status of the Chicago Travel Advisory.

New Student Orientation is back to normal, with the addition of some of the sessions being available virtually to accommodate new students who are studying remotely. Questions can be directed to studentlife@moody.edu.

A Hyflex or hybrid-flexible class offers its content both in the classroom and online via Zoom and through Canvas, Moody’s learning management system. A Moody Online class only offers its content online in Canvas through an asynchronous format, which means you are not required to be online in the class on a particular day or time.

Yes, the Student Resource Center (which includes Peer Tutoring and the Writing Center) provides both in-person and online services whenever possible. Questions can be directed to gayla.gates@moody.edu.

Yes, Chicago undergraduate students will continue to have access to the CTA U-Pass while classes are in session. Questions can be directed to student.programs@moody.edu.

Hyflex classes will proceed as scheduled on their days and times in Moody campus classrooms. Students who are not in the classroom can join live via Zoom. Students will be in the classroom or connected online to the live classroom experience. There will also be content on the class website offered through Canvas, Moody’s learning management system.

Yes. We will continue to respect the health and safety of both students and the people they serve and will adjust as needed. Questions can be directed to pcm@moody.edu.

Yes. PCM requirements remain in place for all Chicago Undergraduate remote and on-campus students. The modality may include in-person or remote.

Housing processes and assignments have returned to normal. Please refer to your housing portal for housing details. Questions can be directed to housing@moody.edu.

The process for requesting housing accommodations remains the same. Please email the associate dean of the Student Resource Center at gayla.gates@moody.edu.

Returning students may move in on designated dates. If you have any questions about the move-in form, please email housing@moody.edu  

Students will have the opportunity to live in campus housing this fall, and Residence Life will continue to include experiences like social activities, prayer meetings, and Life Groups. Following the city of Chicago’s mandate, wearing a face mask is expected during indoor events. Since we are experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases, modifications may need to be made or activities canceled in order to mitigate spread.

Guests are permitted on campus; please sign in at a welcome desk. Overnight Guests are not permitted at this time; any changes to this policy will be communicated to students by Residence Life.

The City of Chicago issued a mandate requiring masks in public settings while indoors on Moody’s campus, regardless of vaccination status.

Masks can be removed while eating and/or drinking, as well as in a student’s residence hall room and while on their residence floor if social distancing of six feet can be maintained.

Students may observe professors, supervisors, chapel speakers and worship leaders removing their masks if presenting to a group as long as people in the area are stationary and maintaining at least six feet from all other individuals.

If you were planning on living off-campus because you chose to utilize the hyflex model, but then wish to change your mind and study on campus, our response will depend on residence hall room availability. If you want to move off campus after the semester begins and continue your hyflex courses online, your room and board will not be prorated, because the campus will still be open.

Communication from Moody will generally address Chicago specifically, and you should expect the Michigan campus (including the Detroit Durfee classroom location) to follow those guidelines, except where the state of Michigan restrictions are stricter. We are utilizing a highly flexible (Hyflex) approach to learning for most classes, allowing you to attend classes in person, online via Zoom, or asynchronously accessing course videos in Canvas (course link will be in Canvas for all classes). This learning model will allow us to continue to deliver classroom teaching, even if a resurgence of COVID-19 becomes a challenge. Check with the teachers of the Durfee location classes for potential limitations to this option.

MTS Michigan is not requiring students to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Masks are expected for unvaccinated individuals inside the campus building, and optional for vaccinated. All faculty, staff, and students, vaccinated and unvaccinated, should have a supply of masks with them in case the need arises.

Since MTS Michigan is not a residential campus like Chicago, we will not require a negative COVID-19 PCR test 72 hours prior to your first class, though you are encouraged to get tested as a way to establish a healthy baseline for our student body. The same applies to weekly testing. Students of the Michigan campus are not required to be tested weekly. Again, if you experience symptoms, please get tested immediately and always be in good communication with the office in Michigan.

Student Life activities have returned to normal operations. This includes the reopening of the student lounge, missions and ministry fairs, along with other corporate social and library-operated gatherings. New Student Orientation will return to an in-person environment on Thursday, August 12 at 6:00 p.m. Unvaccinated students on campus are expected to wear a mask inside the building. Some parts of the orientation will be available virtually to accommodate those who might not be able to attend in person. Chapels will return from 5:15 - 5:45 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday (depending on the schedule). These in-person gatherings are strongly recommended for all students. Fully vaccinated students will have the option to wear or not wear a mask. For unvaccinated students, wearing a mask is required during chapel.

For internships and field education, we will follow health and safety protocols, as we did this past year. Please contact the field education instructor, Professor Dan Thorpe, at daniel.thorpe@moody.edu for direction and adjustments.

For the Urban Scholars program, we will follow similar protocols to last year. Please contact Amber Tucker at amber.tucker@moody.edu for questions in regard to your site and activities that must be completed during the semester in order to maintain your scholarship.

Counseling will be provided this fall through the Michigan Campus Counseling Clinic. Whether counseling is offered in a virtual or in-person format will be determined closer to the start of the fall semester. Detailed COVID-19 protocol for Moody Aviation can be located through your CANVAS dashboard under the COVID-19 training course. Moody Aviation’s COVID-19 Safety Manual may be viewed through this course and will be updated as necessary following guidance from the CDC and the State of WA. The Moody Bible Institute does not require students to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and leaves this sensitive choice to you as an individual. We ask that you bring this matter in prayer before the Lord and consider wisely the pros and cons of becoming fully vaccinated or not based upon your personal health needs as well as the health of the community. Vaccinated individuals will be permitted to avail themselves of the reduced restrictions below after providing confirmation of vaccination or a certificate of attestation to Moody Aviation. Employees must provide proof of 1) vaccination, or 2) approved exemption.

Face coverings are required for all individuals inside Moody Aviation facilities. All faculty, staff, and students, vaccinated and unvaccinated, should have a supply of face coverings with them in case the need arises.

It is expected that unvaccinated individuals maintain a social distance of three feet from others where possible. Vaccinated individuals who have provided appropriate documentation are encouraged but not required to maintain three feet distance from others.

A negative COVID-19 PCR test for unvaccinated individuals within 72 hours of your first class is encouraged, but not required to return to campus. If you have traveled internationally, a negative COVID-19 test is required prior to your return to Moody Aviation as well as a 7-day quarantine. If you experience COVID-like symptoms please get tested immediately and communicate with Mike Wilson, michael.wilson@moody.edu and Garry Barkman, garry.barkman@moody.edu.

Vaccinated or unvaccinated individuals who experience COVID-19 symptoms, test positive for COVID-19, or come into close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19, please promptly contact Mike Wilson (michael.wilson@moody.edu) and Garry Barkman (garry.barkman@moody.edu). You will be given directions in regard to your ability to be on campus and your course options at that point.

As a student at Moody Aviation, you agree to abide by the quarantine protocol that is established by Moody Aviation. Those who think they may have or know they have COVID-19, as well as unvaccinated individuals who have had close contact with someone with COVID-19, will be directed to quarantine for at least 10 days from the onset of symptoms and be symptom and fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours prior to entering Moody Aviation facilities.

New Student Orientation (NSO) will be offered in-person at Moody Aviation. Some of the orientation will be available virtually to accommodate those who might not be able to attend in-person. Contact Mike Wilson, Associate Dean of Students, at michael.wilson@moody.edu for additional information.

Chapels will be offered in person and will also be available via Zoom for those who are unable to attend in person. Chapel attendance is required and will meet on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 – 12:30 pm.

PCM is offered in partnership with local churches following Washington state guidelines.
