Technology

In an effort to follow our Strategic Direction, Moody strives to utilize new and innovative technology to serve its students and enhance their education.

Chicago Campus Technology

Moody strives to provide an environment where technology enhances the learning process. To facilitate this, high speed wireless Internet access is accessible across the campus.

Computer labs, equipped with both Mac and Windows machines, are located throughout the campus including dorms and the library. These labs help facilitate student coursework when access to specialized software and printing is necessary.

Moody utilizes the Blackboard online learning management system along with Blackboard Mobile Learn, a mobile app that makes Blackboard content available on most smartphone and tablet devices. To help students improve writing skills, Moody also licenses a plagiarism detection tool that is integrated into Blackboard.

Every classroom on campus is equipped as a "smart classroom," which allows instructors and students an easy interface to quickly connect to and display a variety of multimedia information, whether through a laptop connection, document camera, DVD or iPad. Certain classrooms contain specialized recording equipment to capture student presentations in speech and preaching classes to enhance the learning experience.

Students may access a full set of audio-video equipment to enhancement their coursework and PCM environments, including USB drives, laptops, digital cameras and video cameras, digital projectors, and sound systems. This equipment is available through Information Technology Services (ITS).

Technical Support

Online courses are delivered over the Internet. Reliable Internet connectivity is essential for participating in an online course. Although a dial-up connection (56kbps) is sufficient for navigating and viewing the online materials, a broadband connection is recommended.

Any PC or Mac made in the past five years should contain the necessary hardware, software and operating system to participate in Moody's online courses. If you have specific questions or would like more information, please contact Information Technology Services Support Center at its@moody.edu or call during office hours to (312) 329-4001.

Software

Courses often include media objects (images, audio/video, etc.) that require the student's computer have the following software installed:

  • Word Processor capable of reading/writing Microsoft Word 97 or newer files
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader (Download)
  • Adobe Flash Player (Download)
  • Windows Media Player (Mac users will need the latest Quicktime or the Windows Media components from Microsoft. Mac users can download a free component from Microsoft that enables Windows Media playback within QuickTime. Windows Media playback is required only for some courses.)
